Digestion is central to all the body's functions, since all nutrients and energy are processed and taken up in the intestinal system. Diseases in the digestive system can affect the gastrointestinal tract and associated organs such as the pancreas and liver/bile ducts. The term gastrointestinal diseases therefore covers a wide range of diseases within cancer, inflammation, infection and functional disorders. NorTrials Gastrointestinal is located at the University Hospital of North Norway (UNN).
NorTrials Gastrointestinal belongs to the Section for Digestive Diseases, Medical Division, and is part of an environment of active clinical/molecular biology translational research with ongoing projects in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), neuroendocrine tumors, obesity and faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). NorTrials Gastrointestinal will take advantage of the existing research network, and develop this further with the aim of achieving coverage in all regions of Norway, so that small and large hospitals around the country can participate in clinical trials.
